Obituary

Raymond J. Urban, of North Wales and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. He was 86 years old. Ray, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born on January 11, 1931 in Philadelphia to the late Raymond and Edna (nee Gogolin) Urban and was the loving stepson to the late Constance Urban. He was the husband to his childhood sweetheart, Marie R. (nee Decollewaert) Urban and together they shared 63 years of marriage.

Ray graduated from Roman Catholic High School and then served proudly in the United States Army from 1952 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. He owned and operated Comly Food Market and Comly Catering in Northeast Philadelphia in a career that lasted almost 30 years. He then managed cafeteria services at several locations in the Philadelphia area such as Temple University, Philadelphia College of Textiles, Rohm and Haas Chemical Company, as well as several other businesses. In his free time, Ray was an avid Pinochle player, enjoyed attending auctions at Alderfer Auctions, shopping and selling at flea markets, collecting baseball cards, and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. Ray also enjoyed WWII history.

In addition to his wife Marie, Ray is survived by his children; Raymond A. Urban (Sharon), Lorraine Strow (Robert), David Urban (Kathryn), and Michael Urban (Cindy) as well as eight grandchildren; Raymond, Kelly, Kimberly, Christopher, Heather, Jennifer, Carolyn, and Christine along with one great granddaughter, Gabriella. He is also survived by four brothers, Richard, George, Dennis, Steven and predeceased by one brother, Glen.

Relatives and friends are invited to Ray's Life Celebration on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at John F. Givnish of Academy Rd., 10975 Academy Rd. Phila., PA 19154 followed by his memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Family services are entrusted under the care of John F.
