R. Edward Cassell, age 77, passed away on the early morning of November 21st, 2016 after a valiant fight for six months from liver failure. In addition to being a husband and father, Ed was a tireless volunteer in Cheltenham Township, both as an Auxiliary Police Officer, and as a manager of the Cheltenham Athletic Association, now Cheltenham Little League.
As a sworn Auxiliary Police Officer for 26 years, Ed rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer to 1st Assistant Director. He was an icon seen at practically all community events as well as at emergency situations when police presence was required for public safety. He will be greatly missed by his family, the youth of Cheltenham Township, his colleagues at the Auxiliary Police Unit, the Police Department, Cheltenham Township, and everyone whose lives he touched.
Before his passing, Ed requested that we do not grieve his death, but rather, celebrate his life. He always enjoyed life to the fullest. His positive outlook was most admirable, even contagious. He always had a smile for everyone and was highly regarded by people who had the opportunity to meet him.
In addition to his wife, June of 36 years, he is survived by his son Christopher, daughter Amber and grandchildren Kristina, Maia and Bryce.
Relatives and friends are invited to Ed's Life Celebration on Saturday, November 26, 2016 with a viewing from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Rd, Philadelphia, followed by a service at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Ed's memory would be preferred and may be made payable to "Estate of Edward Cassell" to benefit his wife June and sent to: Director Steven Labov, Post Office Box 11292, Elkins Park, PA 19027.
