Obituary

There are certain thoughts and feelings that words cannot impart, They find expression only in the language of the heart. May these understanding thoughts somehow help convey the sympathy that hearts can feel but words can never say.

McDonald Mercer, affectionately known as Mack and the Professor was called to his Heavenly home on Saturday morning October 3, 2020. Mack was preceded in death by his parents James and Theodosha Smith. He was a graduate of John Bartram High School and attended Community College of Philadelphia. Mack knew the Lord; he was a Bible scholar. He was a member of Metropolitan AME Church and Tindley Temple United Methodist church where he was an Assistant Sunday School teacher and Basketball Coach.

On June 12,1976 he was joined in Holy Matrimony with Barbara, his wife of 44 years. Mack was employed at John Hancock, ISI and Ready Pac. He had a genuine heart, was humble and appreciative; he gave so much to many people and expected nothing in return.. He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings . Mack was an Historian in his own right, he was well informed and very knowledgeable and could speak on many subjects; he always said think before you speak and be sure. Mack was a husband, a father, a mentor, a protector and friend; he did not mind sharing his insight and wisdom and was always willing to help you.

Mack had strong values and integrity, he set high standards for himself and others.; he did not Judge others, he accepted them as they were. He was an avid Sports fan and collector; he was an excellent Chess player and loved working on cars.

Mack leaves to cherish his memory his wife Barbara of 44 years, his son Michael and daughter Yvette, his sisters Patricia and Diane, cousins and dear friends. Mack will truly be missed.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
