Tribute & Message From The Family

Lieutenant Thomas M. Welsch of the Philadelphia Fire Department passed away on July 17, 2021. He was 47. Tommy was born to Barbara (nee Cook) and Joseph Welsch. He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Kelly Anne McCarthy; loving children, Alexis McCarthy-Prete, Kyle Welsch, and Jagger Welsch; siblings, Joseph Welsch (Lisa), Dawn (Tom) Gilman, James Welsch (Dawn); mother and father-in-law Susanne and Frank McCarthy; as well as several nieces and nephews. Tommy is preceded in death by his brother Michael Welsch (Carla).

Tommy was born and raised in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia. Tommy was a 1991 graduate of Father Judge High School. After graduation, Tommy enlisted in the United States Navy, where he honorably served 4 years. Upon discharge, Tommy devoted himself to a life of service with the Philadelphia Fire Department. He served over 18 years with the department and was promoted to lieutenant in 2013. Tommy's true love and passion was his family. He spent countless hours with his wife, Kelly and their children cheering on their favorite Philly sports teams, hanging on the beach, and skiing up the Poconos.

Relatives and friends are invited to Tommy's Life Celebration on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154. A second visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the funeral home followed by his service 11:30 AM. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tommy's name may be made to The ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA, 19002 tp honor of Tommy's brother, Michael Welsch. Tommy was so thoughtful the first to pick up my mom waiting for a bus or to bring me a coffee when you had me sleep over.

I remember him sending you Kim Anderson cards because that were ur favorite and he did forever love u Kelly I’m sure if it we are praying for your strength and for you to smile real soon remember all the good times u guys had

Kelly, Lexi, Kyle & Jagger, words cannot convey how deeply we feel for you. Although this time is wrought with so many emotions, always remember, you were Tommy's world. That will never change.
